Introduction to the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through filtered music. As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to retune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience. The SSP involves listening to specially filtered music through headphones alongside a provider in person or remotely. Suitable for children and adults, the SSP has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences and more.

Introduction to Polyvagal Theory

Polyvagal Theory: the Science of Feeling Safe Developed by world-renowned researcher and Unyte’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Stephen Porges, Polyvagal Theory focuses on what is happening in the body and the nervous system, and explains how our sense of safety, danger or life-threat can impact our behavior. Understanding Polyvagal Theory gives us a scientific framework that can be applied through physiological, or “bottom-up” therapies, to help change and improve how we feel, think and connect with others. Our counseling rates are based upon a reasonable therapeutic rate for Kitsap County. Our hourly session is more cost efficient than Medicaid's reimbursement rate of $145 for billing code 90837, which is a 50 minute session.

The following financial limits are based upon the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development's (HUD) income limit for Kitsap County's FY 2023 to qualify for public housing assistance. The mid rate limit is 80% of the median family income for Kitsap County while the low income limit is 50% of the MFI.

If your personal or family's annual or monthly income is higher than the mid rate limit for the amount of people in your family, then you will pay the standard fee of $120. To qualify for our mid-rate or low-rate fee, please submit your latest pay stub to your clinician. A further sliding-scale and a limited amount of pro-bono services are available depending upon your extenuating circumstances.
